The high-resolution magnetic flux leakage (MFL) smart pig is designed for the inline inspection of gas, oil, and petroleum product pipelines. It magnetizes the pipe wall to saturation in the longitudinal direction. When the sensors pass over an area with metal loss or wall thinning (such as internal or external corrosion, gouges, or manufacturing anomalies), they measure the leaked magnetic field and record the data.
These advanced tools feature some of the best industry capabilities for determining angular position and distance traveled. Thanks to a low signal-to-noise ratio, they allow for high-accuracy detection of deep corrosion and provide an increased probability of distinguishing internal defects from external ones.
